Iyengar Yoga
Iyengar Yoga is based on the teachings of living Yoga
master BKS Iyengar, known affectionately as Guruji, and the author of Light on Yoga. Geeta and Prashant,
daughter and son of Guruji, are also great teachers and authors on yoga. The Iyengar family's teachings are deeply grounded
in the ancient yoga tradition. Gurujis's intense practice and over 70 years of teaching have produced significant innovations.
Among the most noteworthy are:
- emphasis on standing poses to develop strength, stability, stamina and concentration
- use of props to facilitate learning
- sequencing of postures to bring clarity and maturity to the practice
- deep knowledge of Yoga used to ease various ailments and stress
Instruction for beginners.
No prior experience necessary. Introduction to fundamentals of alignment and philosophy thru fundamentals of the Iyengar Method. Please note that Intro must begin no later than second class.
Beginning Iyengar Yoga:
For beginners that have taken Intro to Asana or are familiar with Asana practice.
Continuing Iyengar Yoga:
For advancing students. Inversions and backbends will be introduced.
Intermediate Iyengar Yoga:
For students whom have taken continuing Asana and teachers of Yoga. Pranayama techniques introduced.
